Tent City?

Post by SarathW »

I just wonder why there are so many homeless people in the USA.
How come the world's richest country can't look after all these people?
This guy makes tons of videos on homeless people.

No one single factor can explain why there is so much homelessness. It's a combination of at least two or more of the following, in my opinion:

1. Sky high housing costs, which are currently still going up.
2. Lack of affordable apartments (my business is in this industry and I see new companies buying up apartment buildings all the time, renovating them, putting in luxury amenities and then raising the rents).
3. Alcoholism
4. Drug addiction
5. Lack of available employment
6. Automation replacing humans (just the other day I was at a grocery store and a robot was mopping the floors)

Thanks, David.
That is what I thought too.
So what could be the solution in your opinion?

Some potential solutions to my list above:

1. Tiny homes, like this Las Vegas based company:

2. Perhaps some tax or other incentives to encourage landlords and companies not to make only fancy, luxury places that working and lower classes can't afford.

3. & 4. Rehab programs

5. Tariffs like Trump wanted to do, unless there is real and true free trade with the trading nation.

6. Place some limits on automation. Or alternatively provide some Universal Basic Income for a certain percentage of the population.

Very Buddhist-like inspiration story of a homeless woman how she came out of it.
The first video about her living under a bridge.
The second story is she is living in an apartment after.
To me, this is a very inspirational video.

There is homelessness in my city, just like every large city in the U.S., but we have a lesser rate compared to San Fran, Los Angeles, NYC.

There are some encampments here, but nothing like the miles of skid-row encampments you find in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Our housing prices are not as high as those other areas, but it is climbing recently and becoming less affordable for the middle class.

Massive government spending, stimulus checks are taking its toll on the economy and now we have inflation on all goods and services, including housing.

With rapidly deteriorating climate conditions, we may witness an increase in the homeless numbers.
Those who have a roof over their head, may consider themselves lucky while those who don't, are at a loss.

I always wanted to hear the stories of the people who lost their homes in a tornado/hurricane/landslide/fire, but I never got the chance to hear updates. Unfortunately, I always hear of clean up efforts, but never of rebuilding what was lost.

In Puerto Rico for example, it took them 11 months to restore electricity after Donald Trump promised the help of 10,000 FEMA personnel.

It's hard to negotiate a penny more for the poor.
